Welcome to Wonthaggi Life Saving Club

Since 1938 Wonthaggi Life Saving Club has played a vital role serving the local Community watching over and protecting the lives of our beach goers at Cape Paterson Bay Beach. Being the longest serving Lifesaving Club in the Bass Coast Shire, the club has witnessed and been part of the establishment and growth of the coastal town of Cape Paterson, its wonderful beaches and the surrounding Wonthaggi and Bass Coast local area.

Lifesaving offers so many  benefits, both for individuals and communities:

  • Rescue and First aid Skills: Lifesavers are trained to respond to emergencies, enhancing the safety of beachgoers. reducing drowning incidents and ensures a safer environment for everyone. Vital skills that can be used in various situations beyond the beach.
  • Promoting Awareness: Lifesavers play a vital role in educating the public about water safety, promoting awareness, and encouraging safe behaviours at the beach.
  • Building Skills and Confidence: Volunteering in lifesaving helps individuals develop skills in leadership, teamwork, and communication. Fostering personal growth, boosting confidence and resilience in volunteers. These skills are transferable to many areas of life, including careers.
  • Active Lifestyle: The training involved in surf lifesaving encourages physical fitness, which benefits both physical health and mental well-being. It promotes a culture of health within the community
  • Social Connections: Lifesaving organisations create a strong sense of community, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds united by a common purpose. This fosters life long friendships and community spirit.
